Banana Plant

The Banana Plant is from the Musaceae family.  The plants are not woody, and their ‘stem’ is actually made up of the bases of the huge leaf stalks; they are technically gigantic herbaceous plants.

The Banana Plant was brought to the UK in 1834 and gifted to William Cavendish, who then named it after himself!

The Dwarf Cavendish variety of Banana Plant will max out at around 3m high, due to the lack of heat in the UK, it will not bear fruit.

Water often so that the soil stays evenly moist but not soggy

Feed every 2-3 weeks from spring to early autumn with a nitrogen based fertiliser.

Moderate, indirect light

If you are experiencing folded leaves on your Musa it could be because it is getting too much direct sun or not enough water. The leaves will naturally tear as they unfurl and mature, don't fret this is a fast growing plant so there will be more on the way soon. Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to keep them clean.

The height of the plant is meaured from the bottom of the nursery pot. Diameter is that of the nursery pot.
