Emerald Fern

Despite its name, the Emerald Fern is not a member of the fern family.

It is native to South Africa, specifically the Cape and Northern Provinces.

The mature plants produce pale pink flowers or white flowers during the summer season.  These flowers are sometimes followed by green berries, which gradually transform into bright red berries during the winter.  Avoid consuming these berries, as they are poisonous.

Water when top 3-4cm of soil becomes dry.

Feed every 4 weeks from spring to early autumn with a nitrogen based fertiliser.

Moderate, indirect light

If the leaves turn yellow it is likely to be due to overwatering or not enough sunlight. If you experience excessive leaf drop it is likely to be because your Emerald Fern is getting too much sunlight, or has dry soil. Try moving it to a shadier spot and giving it a thorough water.

The height of the plant is meaured from the bottom of the nursery pot. Diameter is that of the nursery pot.
