The Calathea leopardina is part of the Marantaceae family. It is native to the rainforest floors of tropical South America, specifically Brazil.

It is one of the Prayer Plant Calatheas, it has a unique circadian rhythm, spreading its leaves with the sunrise to absorb the sun, then withdrawing them and folding them at night like praying hands.

In the wild, white flowers bloom on a long, stalk-like inflorescence that flourishes from the centre of the plant. As an indoor plant, the Calathea leopardina is enjoyed for its beautiful, patterned foliage.

Allow top half of soil to dry out between watering

Feed every 3-4 weeks from spring to early autumn with a nitrogen based fertiliser.

Curling or spotted leaves can be due to underwatering, give it a thorough water and ensure that the water is fully drained before returning it to its decorative pot.
